There a 3 stages to the communication model
In order for the communication to be successful you often need to have some kind of acknowledgement from the receiver. This might even help to clarify any problems with the communication . With a telephone conversation feedback is immediate but with a text message you are often left wondering. How often have you said to someone "Did you get my text?"

Within a business communication can be internal or external - and this often defines the communication type. For example a teacher might send an email about your dreadful behaviour to your head of year and/or form tutor but if they wanted to communicate this information to your parents they would probably telephone or send a letter home.
